bookseller services   isbn-13 transition

On January 1, 2007 the publishing industry will be using a 13-digit ISBN as a standard for information exchange instead of the current 10-digit code. We have taken some steps to help you, our customers, with the new standards. All current ISBN ranges will use the 978- prefix in the ISBN-13 format. Beginning September, 2006, PGI will be ready to process incoming orders using ISBN-13. At that time you may elect to begin receiving purchase order acknowledgements, packing lists, invoices, and credit memos in ISBN-13. As of January 2007, you will receive all documents in ISBN-13 format unless you request ISBN-10.

For your convenience in converting ISBNs from a 10 to a 13 digit code (and vice versa), click here.

CATALOGS and ORDER FORMS

Beginning with our printed Winter 07 frontlist catalogs, all new titles will now reference a 13-digit ISBN. For this first transitional season, in addition to the 13-digit ISBN we will also reference the 10-digit ISBNs. Our corresponding new title order forms are posted on our bookseller site and will reference both the 10-digit and 13-digit codes.
